Project Build benefits the women of Nyara Project and their communities. We are rebuilding Northern Uganda one community at a time, starting with Atiak. A partnership between respected engineers, architects and designers in Canada and Northern Uganda makes this project a truly collaborative and unique program.

Project Build is a wonderful co-op program between Caleb’s Hope and the Attiak Technical School, offering paid placements within Project Build for Acholi students, who would normally have to travel as far as Sudan to work and raise funds for their education. Project Build also permits foreign volunteers to learn local building practices from the students, as well as having a cultural exchange with the community.

Refugee camps throughout Northern Uganda were shut down (over the course of 2010), leaving an immediate and urgent need for homes. Many were already homeless. Caleb’s Hope began sourcing teams for building as an immediate response to this crisis.

Phase I:

Goal: Housing 96 people.

Breakdown:

  • Build sustainable homes for refugee women and children of Nyara Project.
  • 20 homes for all 20 beneficiaries. Including their children this totals 96 people.
  • Prepare farm land to restore food security and cotton production based on a model of fair trade and sustainability

Goal Achieved: yes.

Phase II:

Goal: The Campus.

A dream campus and the first of its kind of Northern Uganda comprising of a Primary school as well as a community resource centre and library, business development centre,  fine arts and performing arts centre, and martial arts and Parkour facilities. The Campus will also be a place to preserve the Acholi heritage and culture with monuments and exhibits dispersed across the campus that celebrate the Acholi people and way of life. It will be the first institution in Attiak to have internet. We hope this is the first of many phases to this ongoing project.

Phase II planning began in December 2010 and building will commence in December 2011.

Goal Achieved: no. Help us achieve this goal.
